A general framework for hepatic iron overload quantification using MRI

چکیده
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been considered for the quantification of iron overload in liver. Iron was found to correlate with T2* measurement using weighted images. In this work, we address problem estimation liver MRI. We propose a general framework all models proposed literature. The task is then formulated as minimization problem, and suitable regularization functions are assigned unknown model parameters. Subsequently, an alternating direction method multipliers (ADMM) used estimate these Three different derived, tested compared; namely single exponential (SEXP), bi-exponential (BiEXP), plus constant (CEXP). Simulations conducted synthetic datasets indicate good correlation between estimated ground truth models. Quantification of severe liver iron overload using MRI offset echoes
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become the clinical standard to estimate liver iron overload. The most commonly used method is to measure the transversal relaxation time, T2*, from a multi gradient recalled echo sequence (MGRE). While this technique is reliable in low to moderate liver iron concentrations (LIC), it will be inaccurate when it is severe. We report a case with severe liver he...

We report the case of a 52 year old male with diabetes mellitus and long standing evidence of hepatic iron excess. Initially considered to have haemochromatosis, this patient was reevaluated when hepatic iron stores were found to be unaffected by a prolonged course of weekly phlebotomy. The development of neurological disease prompted diagnostic consideration of aceruloplasminaemia, which we co...

Introduction: Precise and effective measurements of iron overload in the liver, where iron deposition seems to be primarily noticeable [1], are important for the early diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of thalassemia patients. Measurement of liver iron concentration in a small part of a needle biopsy is currently considered the gold standard for this purpose and is taken as representative of t...

The liver is the main storage site for iron in the body. Excess accumulation of iron in the liver has been well-documented in two human diseases, hereditary hemochromatosis and dietary iron overload in the African. Hepatic iron overload in these conditions often results in fibrosis and cirrhosis and may be complicated by the development of hepatocellular carcinoma. Malignant transformation usua...
